What options are available for internet service?
Optimum: This was formerly Suddenlink and provides Internet, TV and phone services to our community. under Suddenlink, their service was pretty unreliable over the last few years so many residents have been seeking out alternatives. Now that Optimum has taken over, things seems to be improving significantly. If you are a current customer and having problems, it would be a good idea to make them send a technician out and troubleshoot. In my case it turns out Suddenlink had me running on a modem that was way outdated and the primary cause of my problems. The Optimum technician made some corrections and things have been reliable since.
Windstream/Kinetic: Please email Donald.Kott@windstream.com if interested in Kinetic high speed internet, speeds up to 1 gig, no contract, no down payments, no data limits, all new fiber optic high speed. Rep phone # is 330-571-9915; you may also call and give full address and tell them you are in PLAA HOA. As another option, go online to: https://www.windstream.com/high-speed-internet, then enter your address and they will have an alert to contact you. By calling the rep (Donald Kott) directly, they will know there is a high level of interest within the Little Punderson community to have fiber-optic internet. They are working close by; if we can get around 40 people, we have a favorable chance of getting it here in PLAA.
T-Mobile: This is probably the least expensive, most reliable option available. The catch is you need to be in a place where you have a reasonably good T-Mobile signal. There are also signal boosters that you can install/have installed that will give you a better signal to work with. It is a residential plan for $50.00 per month, with unlimited internet usage. In addition, there is no setup or equipment charges. The speeds vary depending on the strength of the cellular signal, but speeds between 20Mbps and 50Mbps are common. The webpage with all of their details is located here – https://www.t-mobile.com/isp/plan
Starlink: This is SpaceX’s (Elon Musk) new venture where they have been deploying satellites over the last few years to provide internet services. If you’re familiar with satellite TV, this is based on the same concept. You need to place their receiver in a location that has a clear sight of the sky so it can communicate with their array. Speeds are currently around 50Mbps but they claim those speeds will be increasing as they add more satellites to the array. The cost is $99.00 per month plus you need to purchase the equipment which is currently $499.00. The equipment is also on back order so it could take months before you receive it after ordering. You can order it online here – https://www.starlink.com
